Paving contractor Spadeoak chose an Ammann AFW 500 Wheeled Asphalt Paver when it took on a challenging project at a high-end golf course in the United Kingdom.
Managers of the course wanted the golf cart paths paved with asphalt for strength and durability. But they also wanted the more traditional appearance that gravel paths provide.
Ultimately, the golf course managers were able to have the best of both worlds. They had Spadeoak place a 10-mm open texture mix and then manually spread gravel over the surface.
The paths wind through the scenic course, making paver manoeuvrability essential. And while the rolling hills are picturesque, they also created challenges that might have spelled failure for a lesser paver.
The AFW 500, however, overcame all the hurdles. “It’s quite manoeuvrable, and it’s very easy at getting through all the footpaths and around all the obstacles on the golf course,” said Matthew Stevens, Contracts Director for Spadeoak. “It’s excellent for getting up and down the gradients that we’re dealing with.”
