Ammann Vibratory Plate Compactors are ready for any situation. The product line ranges from a light 54 kg to a much heavier 825 kg – with many models in between.
All Ammann plates are easy to operate, making them ideal for rental fleets. They also are versatile, with an ability to easily adjust to varied applications. Many are available with diesel or petrol engines.
When it comes to production, some of these machines move as quickly as soil compactors. They are high-climbers, too, with various models performing on grades as steep as 30 per cent.
Ammann Vibratory Plate Compactors are broken into three categories:
- APF-Series: Forward moving vibratory plates
- APR-Series: Reversible vibratory plates
- APH-Series: Fully hydrostatic reversible vibratory plates
Biofuel Use
Ammann diesel-burning machines are able to utilise hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), a biofuel made from waste that reduces CO2 emissions by up to 90%.

WHAT SETS AMMANN VIBRATORY PLATES APART?
GENERAL
VERSATILITY FOR THE RENTAL MARKET
Ammann Vibratory Plates provide a great range of weights and varied vibratory features to match many applications. The compact machine dimensions and easy upkeep make it ideal for rental companies as well as contractors and landscapers.
CONTROL
The vibratory plates have different exciter systems but a common thread runs through all: easy operator control. That includes when changing directions or working on steep grades.
THE HANDLE
The standard guide handle is vibration isolated to reduce stress on the operator. It also is foldable and removable, a crucial feature when working in confined areas or during transport. A patented low-vibration guide handle that reduces vibration even further is optional on some machines.”
FORWARD-MOVING VIBRATORY PLATES
WEIGHT
APF products are the lightest of all Ammann plate compactors, with weights ranging from 54 kg to 110 kg, providing a variety of sizes to fit the application and working space.
FUEL OPTIONS
APF compactors that use either diesel or petrol are available, ensuring there is a product that meets the varied global emissions standards. It also enables crews to utilise whatever type of fuel is typically available on the jobsite.
LONG LASTING
The engine power is transmitted to the exciter system through a centrifugal clutch and a protected V belt. The exciter system is easy to maintain and has a long life expectancy.
REVERSIBLE VIBRATORY PLATES
FUEL OPTIONS
APR compactors that use either diesel or petrol are available, another key feature for customers who want to rent a machine.
TWO-SHAFT EXCITER UNIT
All APR machines vibrate with a two-shaft exciter unit. The positioning of these two shafts enables the operator to smoothly change directions (forward/reverse) or to effortlessly keep the machine working on a single, tough-to-compact area.
A POWERFUL, FAST CLIMBER
APR machines outshine the competition with their great climbing ability, overcoming grades between 30 per cent and 35 per cent, depending on the model. As the fastest machines on the market, they cover those grades quickly, too.
“ON-THE-SPOT” VIBRATION
The reversible plate compactor’s ability to move forward and backward enable it to hover and deliver a high compaction force in a single spot.
HYDROSTATIC VIBRATORY PLATES
A HYDRAULIC PUMP
The APH line features a fully hydrostatic system that doesn’t require V belts. A hydraulic pump drives the eccentric shafts and controls adjustment of the centrifugal weights, allowing a smooth change of direction.
TRIPLE-SHAFT EXCITER SYSTEM
Ammann developed a triple-shaft exciter system for its APH products, the largest offered. This makes the machines easier to operate while increasing the power and compaction forces. The system keeps plate movement consistent, which in turn enables smooth travel – even through heavy, cohesive soils – and helps effortlessly overcome steep grades. APH machines even can climb while backfilling saturated areas – work that can leave competitive products at a standstill.
ORBITOL STEERING
Ammann’s unique orbitol steering system enhances machine control and agility and boosts safety, too. This fully hydraulic steering tool provides precise control with minimal operator effort.
DEAD MAN’S HANDLE
This optional feature automatically stops the machine when the operator releases the handle. The machine resumes working when the operator regains hold of the handle.
COMPACTION TECHNOLOGY
The APH vibratory plates can be equipped with the well-known Ammann ACE (Ammann Compaction Expert) system, developed for larger Ammann compactors but adjusted to fit the APH line. ACEecon continuously monitors compaction levels to the operator, boosting efficiencies – especially when compacting large areas. ACEforce monitors and can automatically adjust compaction force to provide efficiency and avoid surface damage from over-compaction of sensitive areas.
APPLICATIONS
- Compaction in confined areas
- Earthwork
- Asphalt and paving
- Light to medium patchwork
- Pipeline and trench construction
- Landscaping and gardening
